Easter Activities to Enjoy with Your Ageing Loved Ones

Easter is a lovely time of year to slow down, spend time with family and enjoy some of the simple things that make us smile.

If you’re spending it with an older family member or loved one, you don’t need to plan anything complicated. Sometimes, the best memories come from a cup of tea, a bit of baking or simply sitting together and having a chat.

Here are some activities to enjoy together, with something for everyone.

1. Decorate Easter Eggs

Decorating Easter eggs is a classic activity that can be enjoyed at any age.

Get creative with paint, stickers, pens or food colouring and see who can come up with the most colourful design. You could even turn it into a little competition!

If using small items or detailed designs is difficult for your loved one, choose larger brushes, stickers or sponges instead. The most important thing is having fun together.

2. Bake Some Easter Treats

Few things make a home feel more welcoming than the smell of something baking.

Why not spend an afternoon making some biscuits, fairy cakes or hot cross buns together? Your loved one could help with mixing, decorating or simply choosing what treats you make.

And you don’t have to bake everything from scratch. Decorating some ready-made biscuits with icing and sprinkles can be just as much fun.

3. Enjoy an Easter Film or Some Music

Sometimes, a relaxing afternoon at home is all you need.

Put on a favourite film, watch a programme or listen to some music you both enjoy. If your loved one has a favourite singer, band or type of music, why not make a playlist together?

Music can also be a lovely way to bring back memories and start conversations about favourite songs and special moments.

4. Enjoy a Spring Walk

If the weather is nice, Easter can be a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy the signs of spring.

Take a gentle walk around the local area, visit a park or simply spend some time sitting in the garden. Look out for spring flowers, birds and signs of new life.

If going for a walk isn’t suitable, there’s nothing wrong with opening the windows, sitting outside with a cup of tea or enjoying the garden from a comfortable spot.

5. Make an Easter Decoration

Get creative and make something that can be enjoyed throughout Easter.

You could create a simple table centrepiece using flowers, ribbons, painted eggs or decorations. Your loved one can choose the colours, arrange the items or simply enjoy watching it come together.

It doesn’t need to be perfect — it’s about enjoying the activity together.

6. Have an Easter Afternoon Tea

Who doesn’t love an afternoon tea?

Set the table, put the kettle on and enjoy some Easter favourites such as hot cross buns, sandwiches, biscuits and chocolate eggs.

You could even make it feel extra special by using your best cups and plates or adding some spring flowers to the table.

Sometimes, a cup of tea and a good conversation is all you need for a lovely afternoon together.

7. Look Through Old Photos

Easter can be a great opportunity to spend time looking back at happy memories.

Get out some old photo albums and look through pictures from previous Easters, family celebrations, holidays or special occasions. Ask questions about the people and places in the photographs and share your own memories too.

For some people, talking about the past can be a really enjoyable way to connect and spend time together.

8. Make an Easter Memory Together

Why not start a little Easter tradition of your own?

You could take a family photograph each year, make the same Easter recipe, decorate eggs together or have an Easter afternoon tea.

It doesn’t have to be anything big. Small traditions can become memories that everyone looks forward to year after year.

Make Time for What Matters This Easter

Easter doesn’t have to be busy or expensive to be enjoyable. The most important part is spending time together and making your loved one feel included.

Whether you spend the afternoon baking, enjoying a spring walk, looking through old photographs or simply sitting down with a cup of tea, it’s those everyday moments that can mean the most.

So, put the kettle on, make some time for each other and enjoy the little things. 🐣💜
