How to Fund Your Care

Navigating the costs of home care can be overwhelming, but understanding the available funding options can make the process more manageable. Whether you're seeking short-term assistance or long-term support, there are several avenues to explore:
Home care

Local Authority Funding (Social Care Support)

If your savings and assets are below Β£23,250, you may be eligible for support from your local council.
  • Needs Assessment – Request a free care needs assessment from your local authority.
  • Financial Assessment – If your needs qualify, a financial assessment will determine your eligibility for funding.
  • Direct Payments – You may receive funding directly to arrange care with a provider like Fuchsia Homecare.
Tip: Even if you’re above the financial threshold, you may still be eligible for support planning or partial funding.

NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)

In some cases, the NHS may fully fund your home care if your needs are primarily health-related.
  • Requires a detailed health assessment
  • Covers the entire cost of care, including care at home
  • Available regardless of personal income or savings
This option is typically for individuals with long-term, complex medical needs.

Attendance Allowance (Age 66+)

Attendance Allowance (Age 66+)

If you are over State Pension age and need help with personal care, you may be entitled to Attendance Allowance, a non-means-tested benefit that can help cover home care costs.
  • Lower rate: Β£72.65 per week (if you need help during the day OR night)
  • Higher rate: Β£108.55 per week (if you need help during both)
  • Direct Payments – You may receive funding directly to arrange care with a provider like Fuchsia Homecare.
You can still qualify even if you don’t currently receive care β€” what matters is the need.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) (Ages 16 to State Pension Age)

If you are living with a disability or long-term health condition and need help with daily activities or mobility, you may qualify for PIP.
  • Paid weekly and not means-tested
  • Two components: Daily Living and Mobility
  • Can be used to fund your care at home
This option is typically for individuals with long-term, complex medical needs.
