Cancer is something that has touched so many lives. Whether it is a family member, a friend, a colleague, a customer or someone in our wider community, most of us know someone whose life has been affected by cancer.
That is one of the reasons we wanted to do something together at Fuchsia Homecare.
On Friday 18th September, from 10am to 4pm, we will be holding a Macmillan fundraiser at our office at 2 Wharfedale Road, Ipswich, IP1 4JP.
We’re looking forward to bringing people together for a day of fundraising, a bit of fun, plenty of cake and, most importantly, raising money for a charity that provides vital support to people living with cancer and their families.
Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the UK’s leading cancer charities. Their work goes far beyond medical care.
They support people with the practical, emotional and financial challenges that can come with a cancer diagnosis. This includes providing information and advice, helping people understand their benefits and finances, offering emotional support and funding specialist services, including Macmillan Nurses.
Their aim is simple: to make sure people living with cancer don’t have to face it alone.
And the need for that support is huge.
There are currently almost 3.5 million people living with cancer in the UK, and more than 420,000 people are diagnosed each year. On average, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer at least every 75 seconds.
Those numbers are difficult to take in when you see them written down. Behind every number is a person, a family and a story.
One of the things we find particularly important about fundraising is knowing that the money raised can make a real difference.
Macmillan relies heavily on donations and fundraising, with around 98% of its income coming from voluntary donations. This funding helps Macmillan provide services for people affected by cancer, train Macmillan Nurses, develop support services and help people access financial and practical support.
In 2024 alone, Macmillan supported around 2.4 million people affected by cancer through its information and support services.
And even small amounts can help.
For example, Macmillan says that £187 could provide someone living with cancer with eight sessions of emotional support from a Macmillan Buddy, while £1,490 could pay for a Macmillan Nurse for one week.
It really shows that every donation, no matter the size, can contribute towards something meaningful.

We wanted our fundraiser to be about more than simply collecting donations.
We want to create a day where people can pop in, have a chat, enjoy some treats, take part in our activities and help us raise as much as we can for Macmillan.
There will be cakes, games, activities and plenty of opportunities to get involved, so whether you come along for five minutes or stay for a little longer, we’d love to see you.
We’ll also be sharing more about what we have planned as the day gets closer — including some of the prizes we have up for grabs. 👀💚

Everyone is welcome.
You don’t need to do anything complicated. Come along, grab a slice of cake, have some fun and make a donation if you can.
Working in home care means we see every day just how important people, families and communities are.
We know that life doesn’t always go to plan, and that sometimes people need a little extra support around them. Cancer can affect so many parts of a person’s life, not just their health, which is why the work Macmillan does is so important.
We are proud to be doing our little bit to support that work.
We might not be able to change everything, but together, small actions can add up to something much bigger.
So, if you’re nearby, come and say hello, enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake, take part in our fundraiser and help us support Macmillan. 💚
We can’t wait to see you on Friday 18th September!
Every pound raised will help Macmillan continue to support people living with cancer and their loved ones.
